A fine quality tea caddy c1750 with vivid chequered inlay to the front and sides, and a punch work pattern to the top, the edge of the lid, and the base. Inside there are three rectangular metal canisters with round lids, and a slotted area behind these for storing teaspoons. The handle on the lid appears to be original. The lock and key are present, but the lock no longer holds the catch on the lid.
Condition: There are a few areas of missing or replaced veneer. There is a small area of damage to the back corner. The lid doesn’t sit totally square to the body. The metal canisters are quite tarnished though otherwise in good condition and fit perfectly. These points can all be seen in the photos. Overall a lovely and beautifully made tea caddy in good condition, with some wear as is to be expected in an item over 270 years old.
