The barrel has four sturdy riveted brass bands encircling it. There is a filled hole which presumably had a tap of some sort in it originally.
Condition: The barrel is good and solid but has a fair degree of wear to the surface, and there is a damaged area that is most visible on the inside of the barrel - I suspect the corresponding area on the outside has been repaired and blended in with the surrounding timber but this is has been neatly done and it is a little hard to tell. Wooden fillets have been fitted in between the oak planks at some point to fill gaps but this is only apparent when you look at the inside.
