I must admit that I didn’t realise this had a musical movement fitted until after I’d bought it - it was such a pretty little box that I fell for it and didn’t pay much attention to anything else - but it was quiet a nice surprise! There is something very nice about a music box, almost a childish pleasure to be had from opening the lid and hearing the music start. Although the movement takes some space out of the box there is enough room left for storing jewellery. The tune it plays is Minuet, String Quartet in E Major by Luigi Boccherini, though it is slightly out of sync in places!

Condition: There is a small piece of inlay missing on the lid, and I think there would have been a small brass knock-in escutcheon, though this is missing. There is no key. The musical movement has been added later, probably in the Victorian era, and is wound up with a key that protrudes from the underside of the box.
